Remember how fast your PC was on day one? It booted in seconds and everything opened instantly. If it now takes as long to start as making yourself a coffee, that's not nostalgia: Windows degrades with use, and reinstalling it brings back that day one.
Why Windows breaks down on its own
It's not that the PC "wears out": it's that the system accumulates leftovers from programs you uninstalled years ago, startup fills up with tasks nobody asked for, the factory bloatware is still there taking up space, and over time even some uninvited guest can sneak in. Each thing takes a little away, and in the end the machine runs at half speed even though the hardware is perfectly fine. That's why there are five-year-old computers that fly and two-year-old ones that crawl: the difference isn't the machine, it's what's inside it.
What a proper reinstall actually does
Reinstalling isn't deleting four folders: it's starting from zero. A professional reinstall includes a clean system install, the correct drivers, up-to-date updates and only the programs you need. No leftovers, no inherited junk. You make the backup of your files before bringing the machine in (we'll tell you how), because without a backup there is no reinstall. And a workshop tip: if your machine still has a mechanical drive, combining a reinstall with an SSD is the cheapest trick there is for getting a "new" computer without buying one.
How often should you reinstall
As a rule of thumb: every year and a half or two for normal use, and once a year if you install and uninstall a lot or the PC passes through several hands. Between reinstalls, a yearly clean-up and optimisation keeps the system sharp without going as far as a full install. Signs it's due: eternal boot times, strange errors, programs freezing for no reason... And if the fan also roars like a hairdryer, that's another matter: check our signs your PC needs cleaning.
The one thing that doesn't forgive: the backup
Reinstalling wipes the whole drive, with no recycle bin to cry into afterwards. Photos, documents, saved passwords: everything needs copying before you bring the machine in. It's the step everyone puts off, so if you're unsure how to do it, our workshop in Torremolinos will gladly advise you — but making it is on you: no confirmed backup, no reinstall.
